Barclaycard, the credit-card issuing arm of United Kingdom-based Barclays PLC, and Visa Europe said Wednesday they have started a test of a corporate card that enables cardholders to use one-time passcodes to access computer networks. Besides being a standard Visa-branded corporate payment card, the product has an embedded keypad and LCD display. Users enter their PINs into the card, which then generates a one-time passcode, both organizations say. Cardholders use the passcode to access their company's computer network. The test involves up to 500 employees of Deloitte LLP, a UK-based professional-services firm. The test, already under way, is scheduled to end around early summer. A statement from Barclaycard and Visa calls this test the first for a corporate Visa card that produces one-time passcodes. A Visa Europe spokesperson tells CardLine Global that four banks that operate in Europe late last year launched a test of a similar card for consumers, who use the one-time passcodes for online shopping and banking.
