United Kingdom-based Barclaycard says it has issued 1 million contactless cards in the UK, a goal the financial institution set earlier this year. In February, the issuer's parent, Barclays PLC, bought the Goldfish brand from United States-based Discover Financial Services, bringing Barclaycard some 1.7 million card customers. Barclaycard then announced plans to issue contactless cards to many of those customers and to holders of Morgan Stanley-branded cards. Barclaycard also has issued contactless cards to holders of its platinum card and OnePulse card, which enables transit riders to pay fares in the London area. Barclaycard also announced that Pret A Manger, a food chain, plans to accept contactless payments in 178 stores over the next six months.
