BillMyParents, of San Diego, based its prepaid MasterCard on an earlier online payment product designed to involve parents in teens' spending. The card provides parents with real-time notices of teens' purchases and allows parents to shut off the card's ability to transact (see story).

Extole, of San Francisco, is a social marketing company that provides the Refer-a-Friend program, which allows consumers to send product referrals to friends using e-mail or social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. When new users sign up, they get a $10 reward, as does the person who sent the referral.

"Recommendations from a trusted source are always the most powerful," said Mike McCoy, BillMyParents' chairman and CEO, in a press release May 22. "This will help us grow our loyal user base while rewarding families for referring our card to their personal network, and both the current and new cardholders will benefit."
