Cambodian Bank Issues First Credit Card

IMGCAP(1)]

Cambodia-based ANZ Royal Bank says it has started to issue its first credit card in the country. The Visa-branded card comes in "diamond" and "classic" varieties. The diamond card is designed for consumers with higher incomes, a bank spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The bank faces challenges in persuading consumers to apply for the cards."Locals currently prefer debit cards more than credit cards to make payment[s] in the country," the spokesperson says. "However, educated groups such as university students and company staff have already realized that credit cards are more convenient, so we do expect the credit card market in the country to grow quickly over the next few years." Australia-based ANZ Group and Cambodia-based Royal Group Co. formed ANZ Royal Bank in 2005 as a joint venture.
