Card Activation Technologies Inc., a Chicago-based company that holds a patent on point-of-sale technology for activating and processing stored-value transactions, announced today that it has settled its lawsuit against Sears Holding Corp., which is based in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The companies did not disclose the terms of the settlement. According to a Dec. 29 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Card Activation has filed patent-infringement suits against Sears, McDonald's Corp., Walgreen Co., Barnes & Noble, Aeropostale Inc., TJX Cos. Inc. and OfficeMax Inc. The company settled with McDonald's, which has taken a license under the patent, according to the filing. Card Activation also settled with TJX in November, according to the filing. No details were disclosed on the TJX settlement. Card Activation did not return calls for comment.
