JPMorgan Chase & Co., one of the nation's largest debit card issuers, is offering an extra layer of protection to its Visa check card customers through a new service called Chase Identity Protection. Chase charges customers $11.99 per month for the recently launched service, which it says provides timely notifications to any changes in cardholders' credit files. "Chase Identity Protection gives customers peace of mind," Tom Kelly, a Chase spokesperson, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. Chase decided to offer the service because of the purported success of firms such as LifeLock, a Tempe, Ariz.-based company that provides protection from identity theft, ATM&Debit News learned. Chase Identity Protection provides credit reports and credit scores from the nation's three largest credit bureaus–Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Cardholders who sign up will have regular access to their credit reports and will be reimbursed up to $100,000 for any unauthorized charges on their debit cards.
