Citi, Malaysian Agency Offer Tax-Payment Service

IMGCAP(1)]

Citibank Malaysia has introduced a service that enables corporate customers to pay taxes online. The bank worked with Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia, an agency that collects income taxes, to launch the service, an agency spokesperson tells CardLine Global. Consumers can use the service to pay 19 types of taxes, the bank says in a press release. Users fill out forms online to initiate tax payments. The service comes as governments and financial institutions in other parts of the Asia-Pacific region try to get more consumers to pay taxes electronically. Earlier this year, for instance, authorities in Jakarta, Indonesia, said they would enable motorists to pay vehicle taxes at ATMs (CardLine Global, 5 Feb). In January, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, a financial institution based in India, said it had launched a service to enable its customers to pay their income taxes online (CardLine Global, 19 Jan). Similar efforts have taken place in the Philippines and South Korea.
