Apple on Sept 9 announced Apple Pay, a mobile payment system that will be included in upcoming versions of Apple's smartphones and smartwatch. In its announcement and on its website, Apple omits Discover in the list of participating card networks.

Apple has also signed agreements with the six largest card-issuing banks and merchants including Macy's Bloomingdale's Walgreens, Duane Reade, Staples, Subway, McDonald's, Whole Foods and Apple's own retail stores.
