DMI, Wing Team Up on Cambodian Mobile Payments App

DMI Inc., a mobile technologies software developer based in Bethesda, Md., has announced a collaboration with Cambodia-based mobile banking provider Wing for a mobile app enabling consumer and commercial funds transfers within the country.

The Wing app, available for iOS and Android with language support in Khmer and English, enables consumers and businesses to transfer, deposit and withdraw funds from anywhere in Cambodia, the companies said in a July 29 press release.

Wing, launched in 2009 in Phnom Penh, has built a platform enabling diverse financial services for unbanked and underbanked consumers throughout Cambodia. Services include money transfer, bill payment, payroll and disbursement services, with cash access available through Wing Cash Xpress outlets.

Wing and DMI anticipate strong demand for the new app in Cambodia, where mobile apps are serving as the first financial services platform for a majority of consumers, DMI said. Among Cambodia’s population of 15.5 million, less than 10% have a bank account or payment card, the companies said in the release.
