Dwolla Launches Online Checkout Service

Dwolla, an alternative payments provider, has launched a service that allows customers to send money to a business without having to enter bank account information.

The feature, called Dwolla Direct, will go live on June 25, the company says in a June 18  blog post. The service will allow customers to shop at e-commerce sites by entering their Dwolla Direct username and password.  Dwolla Direct users will not be required to have a standard Dwolla account.

Dwolla Direct will let users fund payments from a linked bank account, and will verify this link using only the account's username and password.

The Iowa-based firm has expanded its offerings in recent months. Last month, it began offering its next-day payments network to all of its business clients. It also launched a real-time payments service in October for banks and credit unions.
