Moscow-based Soyuz Bank has started to impose fees for ATM cash withdrawals to make up for financial losses related to the global economic downturn. The fees take effect on 28 Nov. and apply to customers using credit or debit cards to withdraw cash from ATMs. Previously, the bank allowed customers to withdrawal funds without fees. Now the bank will charge 0.5% of the withdrawal amount, a bank spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The fees do not apply to customers with cards used to withdrawal salary payments. The bank says it lost 42% of its deposits in October and was forced to issue an announcement this week that it remained in operation. "All the changes in our tariffs are caused by the current financial crisis," the spokesperson says. "Our customers have time to decide … whether they are still comfortable using the card with the new fee." The bank issues cards carrying the Visa and MasterCard brands.
