India-based rail line Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp. (IRCTC) and mobile payments company
The new feature builds on Mobikwik’s service introduced last year enabling IRCTC customers to book and purchase train tickets through the Connect app, the companies said in an Aug. 1 press release.
With Mobikwik’s new Food on Track app linked to the wallet, riders can review menus from participating restaurants, order and pay for meals, which are delivered to customers’ seats during brief station stops, the companies said. More than 300 restaurant locations are participating in Food on Track, including outlets of Punjab Grill, Domino’s and KFC.
Mobikwik, which targets unbanked and underbanked customers, enables users to load cash to the app through retail outlets in 1,000 cities across India through a prepaid banking license from the Reserve Bank of India. More than 32 million consumers have downloaded the app, Mobikwik said.
The new food service aims to increase convenience for riders, who no longer have to hunt for cash, while it expands dining options for travelers, said Mrinal Sinha, Mobikwik’s chief operating officer.
