Japan-based Surutto Kansai, which issues PiTaPa transit cards in that country, says it will launch a PiTaPa credit card in South Korea in October with South Korea-based credit card company Lotte Card. The JCB-branded card has a credit card function and a contactless transit card application, Kansai says in a statement. The company says it expects travellers in South Korea and businesspeople visiting Japan to use the card. Consumers can use the cards to pay for rides on buses and trains operated by 34 Japanese firms, the statement says. Cardholders can add value to the stored-value transit application from their credit card accounts. Kansai says it expects to issue 10,000 cards within the first year. Japan has some 1.15 million PiTaPa cards in circulation.
