First American Payments Systems L.P., a Fort Worth, Texas-based payment processor, says it has launched a data-security compliance program called PCI Smart designed for smaller merchants that fall into the Level 4 tier, which process fewer than 1 million annual card transactions. The program is not optional for merchants, a First American spokesperson says. The processor says it is using Trustwave's compliance software and other services in the program. PCI Smart also will use Trustwave online video tutorials to help educate merchants about general cardholder security. First American says it has more than 100,000 merchants. Trustwave is based in Chicago.
