First Data Corp. has gained a new Polish bank as a client, a spokesperson for the United States-based processor tells CardLine Global. Alior Bank plans to start business later this year, First Data says. The bank will issue debit and credit cards and hopes to gain at least 1 million clients . Bank officials could not be reached immediately for comment. First Data will provide the bank with such services as issuing, personalization, card management, authorization and transaction monitoring, the spokesperson says. First Data has operated in Poland for 17 years and in March 2007 acquired Polcard SA, a Polish processor for both card issuers and merchants. The spokesperson would not discuss the specific terms of the Alior contract, such as when it expires.
