Branch staff may provide credit and debit cards right away to customers under a new instant-issuance service from Fiserv Inc.

Financial institutions should consider a strategy and tactics based on operating environment, association compliance, product preferences and processor integration before deciding to issue cards in a branch. As such, with Fiserv’s new service, financial institutions may opt to issue a permanent Visa or MasterCard right away or a non-personalized debit card so customers may have immediate access to a new account until they receive a permanent card by mail, the Brookfield, Wis.-based company said in a press release Sept. 10.

"We work closely with our clients to understand their business goals and how they can reach those goals. Instant issuance is now part of that equation," Jorge Diaz, Fiserv's president of output solutions, said in the release.

Through a connection Fiserv provides between its central issuance bureau and instant issuance service, data from every instantly issued card is stored, thus simplifying the card-replacement or reissuance process. The service also integrates with the Fiserv card-processing platform, the release says.
