Former Google Wallet Engineer Joins Kash

Payments technology provider Kash Corp. has hired SmartFi founder Johnie Lee, a former senior Google employee who worked on Google Wallet and Android Pay Hands Free engineering.

The addition of Lee comes at the same time that San Francisco-based Kash has positioned itself to improve its payment technology platforms through the acquisition of "certain assets" of SmartFi, a provider of automated money management tools for consumers.

Kash did not disclose financial terms of its deal for SmartFi assets or the hiring of Lee.

"Led by Johnie Lee, SmartFi was building one of the most exciting pieces of financial automation software," Kaz Nejatian, CEO of Kash, stated in a July 6 press release.

"We are excited to leverage Johnie's experience and apply it to product solutions that fix how payment works."

Former Visa CEO Joe Saunders is the chairman of Kash's advisory board, a position he took late last year when Kash was launching new business-to-business payment technology through its liveACH app and adding more options to its retail Kash Register point of sale system for mobile payments.

Kash has been positioning itself as a payments technology provider that can help retailers avoid interchange fees and chargebacks through its end-to-end software and platform.

The company targets real estate services, invoicing companies, digital and e-commerce companies with its liveACH app. Kash applications work in physical retail locations, e-commerce and mobile commerce.
