Google didn't disclose the terms in a May 29 e-mail announcing the deal. Pulse.io, whose customers include Groupon Inc. and MyFitnessPal Inc., helps clients improve the performance of an application, discovering for example what is slowing down software or why a screen freezes.

Google is increasing investments in mobile services as users turn to smartphones and tablets to access the digital content. The company this week announced new features for its Android software, which claimed almost 80% of the smartphone market in the first quarter, according to Gartner Inc.

"We can think of no better place to continue our journey than at the home of Android," Pulse.io said in an announcement on its website. "Our team will focus on incorporating our technologies into the Google ecosystem."
