Google Wallet Exec Bedier Departs

Osama Bedier, Google’s vice president of wallet and payments, is leaving Google.

"We can confirm that Osama Bedier has decided to leave Google this year to pursue other opportunities,” says Nate Tyler, a spokesman for Google, in an emailed statement. “He's achieved a lot during his time here and we wish him all the best in his next endeavor. Payments are a big part of what people do everyday and we're committed to making them easier for everyone."

VentureBeat reported his departure May 8.

Bedier had been working for Google since 2011, when he moved from eBay, causing a stir after eBay’s payment subsidiary, PayPal, sued him and Stephanie Tilenius, another former executive who left Google in 2012.

Google released its mobile wallet in 2011. The product faced resistance from carriers, slow support from card issuers and security issues in its first year.
