Google's Android Pay Enables In-App Purchases

Google's mobile wallet, Android Pay, can now be used for in-app purchases on Android devices.

Only a limited number of apps will employ Android Pay to start, but Google said more apps will roll out the payment method "in the next few months," according to a Google blog post. The Android Pay API developer site has information for developers to incorporate the payment method into their apps.

As part of the rollout, certain apps accepting Android Pay will offer discounts when consumers use the payment method. These apps include Lyft, OpenTable, DoorDash and Vinted.

For apps that have enabled Android Pay, consumers can go through mobile checkout and pay by selecting the Android Pay button in the app. Then, consumers must confirm their information to complete the payment.

Google plans to bring Android Pay to Australia during the first half of 2016.
