Heartland Payments Systems Inc. is expanding merchant payment-acceptance flexibility and enhancing customer convenience by making its Mobuyle platform compatible with Apple Inc. iOS mobile devices, the company announced March 12.
Merchants may download the Mobuyle app from the Apple App Store and buy a mobile encrypting card reader from Heartland usable in iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices when plugged into the audio jack, the company said in a press release.
The Mobuyle service accepts credit, debit and gift cards and provides merchants the ability to void sales, process returns, run reports, and process phone or email orders, Heartland said. If the card reader is out of Wi-Fi or cellular range, Mobuyle can store and forward card-transaction information later. Customers also can avoid waiting in line when visiting a store that uses Mobuyle, which can email receipts.
To ensure security, Mobuyle converts the consumer payment data into random characters based on the Advanced Encryption Standard. Devices never store sensitive cardholder data, and the information is encrypted from the moment of a card swipe or keyed entry throughout the transaction process, thus protecting consumer data and helping merchants comply with the Payment Card Industry data-security standards, according to the release.
