Hong Kong Bank To Issue Yuan-Based Debit Card In China

Hang Seng Bank tells CardLine Global it plans to issue a yuan-based debit card with China UnionPay. It will launch the card in the fourth quarter, a bank spokesperson says. Hong Kong-based Hang Seng received approval for the card from the China Banking Regulatory Commission at the end of last year, the spokesperson says. "We are preparing for issuance, and are in the process of moving our data center to Shanghai," he says. Consumers would be able to use the card at all China UnionPay ATMs, according to the spokesperson. The company will release further details at the launch, he says. The bank plans to expand its branch network in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou in the near future, the spokesperson says. Hang Seng deploys 50 ATMs in China.
