Some 70 KFC fast-food locations in Hong Kong will begin accepting contactless payments in the first quarter of 2009 under an agreement announced Thursday. The agreement was signed by Birdland (Hong Kong) Ltd., which operates the KFC stores, and two issuers: Aeon Credit Service (Asia) Co., Ltd, part of the Japan-based Aeon Group, and Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd, according to a statement from the participants. The deal will produce a co-branded Visa credit card with the card company's payWave contactless application. Aeon will issue the cards while Fubon will provide the readers, the statement says. Cardholders can make purchases of up to HK$500 (US$64.50 or 50.20 euros) without signing a receipt. Visa introduced payWave-enabled cards in Hong Kong in February, according to the statement.
