The Hong Kong arm of United Kingdom-based HSBC Holdings PLC says it will charge credit card customers HK$20 (US$2.60 or 1.80 euros) for paper statements. The charge will start on 1 Jan. 2011, the bank says. On 11 Oct., the bank's credit cardholders can begin to check their accounts via a new online site. "We will save 40 million pieces of paper every year with this initiative," an HSBC spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The bank has about 4.2 million credit card customers in Hong Kong. The bank says it plans to donate all fees from paper statements to charity. Customers ages 65 and older and those who receive certain government benefits can apply for a fee waiver.
