The Brazilian arm of United Kingdom-based HSBC Holdings PLC has launched a service that enables customers to use mobile phones for such tasks as ATM log-ins, funds transfers and online payments, a spokesperson for the vendor that sold HSBC the technology tells CardLine Global. Vasco Data Security International Inc., a software company with headquarters in the United States and Switzerland, provided its Digipass software for the effort. The ATM application enables a consumer to receive a one-time password on his mobile phone that he uses to access the cash-dispensing machine. "We expect that [mobile banking] will be emerging in some of the world's leading markets," the Vasco spokesperson says. "And m-banking will need security, so we expect to be able to get our chunk of the pie."
