Hypercom Corp. says it has signed exclusive distribution deal with three point-of-sale terminal distributors for a new device through the end of 2009. O'Fallon, Mo.-based The Phoenix Group, Rocklin, Calif.-based Tasq Technology Inc., and Sacramento, Calif.-based POS Portal will be the only sales outlets for acquirers and independent sales organizations to buy the Optimum T4205 POS terminal, which Hypercom introduced today. The device is an entry-level terminal made with the same software and security measures used in other Hypercom terminals, says Bernie Frey, Hypercom vice president of North American sales. Frey did not disclose the price of the terminal but tells ISO&Agent Weekly, a CardLine sister publication, the device addresses price-sensitive areas of the market. Processors Chase Paymentech LLC, Elavon Inc. and National Processing Co. intend to certify the device for Class A support—meaning merchants can go to processors for help with the device instead of Hypercom—during the first quarter of 2009, Hypercom says. First Data Corp. also intends to add support for the terminal during the first quarter, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Hypercom says. The new terminal is available only in the United States at this time, Frey says.
