Ibiza Hotels Enable PayPal Wristband Payments

Two Palladium Group luxury hotels in Ibiza are now offering vacationers the option to use radio frequency identification-enabled wristbands for payments through PayPal.

The move by Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza continues a growing momentum in contactless payments made through wearable devices. Other examples include the recently launched Barclays bPay PayBand, which can make contactless Visa payments; and the Disney MagicBand, a payment-capable wristband used by nearly half of Walt Disney World patrons.

Like Disney's wristbands, the Palladium hotels' bands can also be used as hotel door keys. When making payments, the bracelet works as a prepaid card that automatically reloads when the balance drops below €10 to maintain an available balance of €300. Upon check-out, any remaining balance will be transferred back into the guest's PayPal account.

PayPal separately offers an app for Google's Android Wear smartwaches, enabling payments at brick-and-mortar merchants that accept PayPal.
