E-commerce merchant sites powered through IBM commerce solutions will soon be able to offer customers Apple Pay as a payment option.
In offering the service through its WebSphere Commerce or IBM Commerce on Cloud, IBM is allowing its clients to offer consumers the ability to avoid time-consuming entry of payment credential details with each purchase.
Apple announced this week that it was expanding
Consumers will be able to choose Apple Pay when making a purchase on the e-commerce sites through the Safari browser on an iPhone, IPad or Mac desktop.
IBM's WebSphere Commerce powers more than 12,000 e-commerce storefronts globally.
“Customer loyalty is everything and businesses must bring relevance, ease and privacy to every step in a transaction if they want to maintain it,” Harriet Green, general manager, of Watson IoT, commerce and education for IBM, stated in a June 13 press release.
"By offering Apple Pay on the web, we are making it even easier for consumers to complete purchases without having to waste time looking for credit cards or putting their most private information at risk,” Green added.
As with other Apple Pay transactions, those made through e-commerce are provided a unique device account number that is encrypted and stored in the handset's secure element. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time dynamic security code.
IBM expects to have the Apple Pay option available through its commerce services in the fall.
