French terminal maker Ingenico Group will use Intel Corp. technology to develop a mobile tablet that supports EMV chip card and Near Field Communication contactless payments.
The collaboration comes ahead of the Oct. 1 liability shift deadline set by the card networks. After that date, parties not able to handle EMV payments will be responsible for fraud costs.
By developing the payment acceptance capabilities through Intel's data protection technology and computer processor, the companies can eye a broader set of initiatives and services for "intelligent" vending machines, kiosks and digital signage, the companies said in an April 2 press release.
"This is a great example of how innovation can simplify the purchasing experience and further enhance the merchant-consumer relationship," Philippe Lazare, chairman and CEO of Ingenico Group, stated in the release.
Bringing secure payment capabilities to connected devices will root Ingenico's "payment acceptance expertise in the Internet of Things," Lazare added.
