QuickBooks maker Intuit Inc. has joined the growing number of companies offering downloadable applications to turn Apple Inc.'s iPhone or iPod Touch devices into mobile credit card terminals. Intuit's GoPayment application enables users to process credit cards, send customers electronic receipts via e-mail or text message, and view past charges, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company announced Monday. Users also can view transactions online and synchronize them with QuickBooks records. Users must have iPhone or iPod Touch operating system versions 2.1 or later, and transactions can be synchronized only with QuickBooks 2009 or later. The application is free to download from Apple's App Store, but users must set up and maintain a merchant account through Intuit for a one-time set-up fee of $59.95, monthly fees of $19.95 and "competitive" per-transaction fees Intuit did not disclose. The service does not require a long-term contract, so users may cancel it at any time, according to Intuit.
