Isis Certifies OTI's Contactless Payment Hardware

On Track Innovations' (OTI) contactless readers have received certification from the mobile wallet venture Isis, which recently launched its Near Field Communication-based payment system nationwide.

Isis is a venture of AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile. While other mobile payments providers opt for software-based payments, Isis' commitment to NFC requires merchants to have the right hardware to accept contactless payments. 

"Receiving certification from Isis provides additional validation of our NFC technology platform," says Ofer Tziperman, CEO of OTI, in a Nov. 21 press release. "The recent nationwide launch of the Isis Mobile Wallet marks a major milestone for the NFC industry. As this initiative gains momentum with the support of some of the world's largest mobile operators and payment card companies, OTI is very well positioned to capitalize on this sea-change."

OTI's complete line of Saturn sales terminals and software have received Isis' certification, OTI says. OTI's readers will be featured on Isis' website and in other marketing material, it says.

OTI also builds the Wave NFC device, which plugs into a phone's headphone jack to allow consumers to make contactless mobile payments, which would enable NFC payments even from phones without an NFC chip or an enhanced SIM card. Wave has been certified by MasterCard Inc. The company plans to ship 40,000 NFC payment devices to North America by the end of the year.
