Mobile payments provider iZettle has expanded into Italy, where it will offer its free mobile card reader to small merchants as well as its wireless contactless payment acceptance device.

By moving into the Italian small-business market, Sweden-based iZettle now operates in 12 markets, including the U.K., Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Finland, Mexico and Brazil.
The iZettle Lite card reader remains a free device that connects through a cable to smartphones and tablets. The iZettle Pro Contactless will start at €59 ($65 U.S.) in Italy.
"Despite a record increase of 55% in the mobile industry, today most small-medium entrepreneurs do not use payment devices because they are too expensive and binding," Jacob de Geer, co-founder and CEO of iZettle, said in a Nov. 3 press release.
"iZettle offers an easy and inexpensive way to increase their business by facilitating card payments."
