JCB, EVO partners to expand card acceptance in U.K., Ireland

JCB International has formed a partnership with EVO Payments to enable acceptance of JCB credit cards at across the U.K. and Ireland.

The move is part of Tokyo-based JCB’s initiative to significantly expand its reach to new geographic areas. It now reaches about 30 million merchants worldwide, according to a Monday press release.

EVO’s work with JCB in Europe began in 2017 with a successful trial of accepting JCB cards in Poland, the release said.

In the U.K. and Ireland, EVO will enable many small and midsize businesses — particularly those that have integrated payments and serve tourists — to accept JCB cards.

“JCB’s partnership with EVO Payments demonstrates our ongoing work to establish efficient acceptance across both the U.K. and Ireland and in Europe more widely,” said Tsuyoshi Notani, managing director of JCB International for Europe, in the release.

“Expanding our card acceptance capabilities so that travelers from Asia can easily make card payments is an important enhancement to our merchant proposition,” said Darren Wilson, president of EVO Payments’ international division, in the release.
