The service enables fliers to book, cancel and receive ticket refunds using their mobile phones, a customer service representative for the airline told PaymentsSource in an interview.

The service resulted from an agreement Mumbai-based Jet Airways announced June 23 with Bangalore-based mobile-payments firm JiGrahak Mobility Solutions Ltd., which operates under the “ngpay” brand.

To book a ticket, fliers first download the ngpay application to their GPRS-enabled mobile phone. They then may use the app to search for the tickets they want to book on Jet Airways. After selecting the flight and seats, fliers use the application to pay using information from a credit or debit card, select cash cards or from their online banking service to use direct debit from a saving accounts.

Once the issuing bank authorizes the transaction, ngpay sends a copy of the ticket to the flier’s email address and a text message confirmation to the user’s mobile number.

The service is free for fliers, though Jet Airways pays JiGrahak undisclosed fees, according to the customer service representative.

Jet Airways operates 97 aircraft, which fly to both domestic and international destinations.
