Kalixa Offers European Mobile Wallet with DeviceFidelity Tech

London-based Kalixa Payments Group is offering consumers in Europe a mobile wallet based on DeviceFidelity's Near Field Communication technology.

Kalixa's version of DeviceFidelity's moneto prepaid wallet links to Kalixa Pay, the company's prepaid MasterCard, and will work on any mobile phone, including Apple's iPhone.

Kalixa's mobile wallet uses a micro SD chip and NFC antenna from DeviceFidelity, according to a July 23 press release. Consumers will be able to use the NFC payment system at any retailer that accepts contactless MasterCard payments.

Richardson, Texas-based DeviceFidelity has provided NFC wallet technology to developers for nearly two years. The company recently began shifting attention to developing software-based features in addition to its micro SD chips.

Last January, U.S. Bank announced a similar method for iPhone users to make NFC payments, using DeviceFidelity's technology built into a phone carrying case. The initial tests of the U.S. Bank mobile payment carrying case took place in Salt Lake City and Portland, Ore.

DeviceFidelity obtained its first patent for NFC technology in May of 2011, saying it could help push “universal adoption of NFC.”

Kalixa's announcement for a mobile wallet throughout Europe comes two weeks after another key mobile payment initiative unfolded in Poland. Six Polish banks have formed a joint venture to establish new standards focused on bank accounts instead of card networks.
