James G. Kelly, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Global Payments Inc., is leaving the Atlanta-based payment processor effective June 30, the company announced today.
Kelly has been with Global for 10 years, taking on his current role in March following the hiring of Jeffrey S. Sloan, a former managing director at Goldman Sachs & Co., as the processor’s president beginning effective June 1 (
Kelly is out of the country and was not available for comment, a Global Payments spokesperson says, noting Paul R. Garcia, Global Payments chairman and CEO, will take over the chief operating officer duties once Kelly departs.
“Jim has been a valuable partner and key contributor over the years in improving our overall operational efficiency and has built a talented team of managers within the organization,” Garcia noted in a statement. “We will miss Jim and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Kelly joined the e-commerce division of National Data Corp., Global Payments’ predecessor, in 2000 as chief financial officer, according to a biography on Global Payments’ website. That division was renamed Global Payments later that year and was spun off by National Data in 2001.
