The Purchase, N.Y.-based card network's inControl system lets customers set spending limits on their accounts. The inControl platform includes additional security offerings, such as virtual credit card numbers to replace stolen cards and real-time alerts to monitor spending.

"We strongly believe that the inControl platform will not only provide more secure transactions for consumers, but will also help them manage their spending and budgeting more effectively," said Raj Dhamodharan, head of emerging payments in the region, in an Aug. 12 press release.

MasterCard debuted inControl in 2007, based on technology from Orbiscom Inc., a Dublin-based company that MasterCard bought in 2009 for $100 million. Last year, MasterCard used inControl technology as the basis for Travel Controller, a product designed to provide greater control over corporate travel accounts.
