MasterCard Inc.'s digital wallet continues its move around the globe, as consumers in the U.K. today became the latest to have access to MasterPass.
The card brand debuted MasterPass, a digital wallet that allows consumers to make purchases online with a single click from any mobile device, in Australia
MBNA will issue the MasterPass accounts in the U.K., MasterCard states in a July 30 press release.
"For retailers, MasterPass provides a faster, easier way to check out their customers, and increase sales without significantly changing the way they currently process payments," Marion King, MasterCard president for the U.K. and Ireland, states in the release.
MasterPass can help retailers reduce checkout abandonment rates, which affected 37% of all online transactions in the first quarter of 2013, King says.
In the U.K., major retailers Argos, Boots UK, House of Fraser, the Hut Group and seetickets.com will accept MasterPass payments.
Consumers can store all of their payment accounts, loyalty cards and billing details in the MasterPass wallet, which can also hold other branded credit, debit or prepaid cards. With a click of the MasterPass button on retailer's site, the consumer can access their payments, shipping and billing details by typing in a password.
In-store, MasterPass will work with Near Field Communication or QR codes, however the NFC payments won't be available in the U.K. until more testing is complete.
