Bank of America Corp. is planning to issue contactless payment stickers to at least some of its card customers, a source familiar with the plans said.

A spokesman for the Charlotte, N.C., banking company could not immediately comment about the plans Monday morning.

Contactless stickers can be attached to mobile phones and other devices, allowing the devices to be used similar to a contactless card at the point of sale.

The source did not know whether Bank of America plans to issue the stickers as part of a trial or fully available commercial product or whether the stickers would be available for credit or debit customers or both.

The technology is considered a bridge to more advanced mobile payments options that involve near-field communication chips embedded inside a mobile phone.

Bank of America also is one of four banks working with Visa Inc. and DeviceFidelity Inc. on trials of a mobile payments system that involves plugging a microSD card into a mobile phone's memory slot.
