Mozido Hires MasterCard Exec to Expand Global Markets

Mobile payment and commerce provider Mozido LLC is bringing on a former MasterCard executive as its president for global markets.

Ron Hynes, who was previously executive vice president of global prepaid solutions at MasterCard, will join the Mozido team to expand the company's cloud-based, white-label mobile payment platform, Austin, Texas-based Mozido stated in a Jan. 27 press release.

Hynes will oversee Mozido’s operations in the U.S., Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, India, China and Asia Pacific.

“I am first and foremost passionate about driving financial inclusion for the world’s underserved,” Hynes stated in the release. “I’m a firm believer in Mozido’s mission to progress via access to mobile financial services for the 2.5 billion people around the world that are not included today."

Hynes was closely involved in MasterCard's financial inclusion partnership with Mozido when the companies announced in November 2014 that Mozido would integrate MasterCard payment and security products into its ecosystem of mobile payment, marketing and other commerce services.

Mozido's close partnership with MasterCard "is at the center of our strategy," Hynes added.

Hynes has more than 15 years of payments experience with the last 10 almost exclusively in prepaid and has served in a variety of leadership roles during his career.

“The addition of Ron is a huge win for Mozido,” Michael Liberty, founder of Mozido and chairman of global strategic initiatives, stated in the release. “His passion for global financial inclusion and his belief in the role mobile payments will play is well-matched for the Mozido executive team."

The hiring of Hynes also comes on the heels of Mozido's significant acquisition in mid-December of mobile wallet developer CorFire, previously wholly-owned by South Korean IT services provider SK C&C.

Two weeks ago, MasterCard announced that Hynes had left the company to pursue a new opportunity and it named Michael Fiore to fill his post as group executive of global prepaid solutions.
