Planet Payment Inc., which specializes in enabling consumers to choose the currency used in their card transactions, is reporting preliminary 2008 revenue of approximately $35 million, a 94.4% jump from $18 million the previous year. Fourth-quarter revenues were $11 million, up 57.1% from $7 million during the same period in 2007, Planet Payment says. Long Beach, N.Y.-based Planet Payment expects to release its preliminary 2008 financial results in late March. New merchants secured by the company's processor and banking customers led the growth, especially in the United States, China, Malaysia and Taiwan, Planet Payment says. Internet transactions made through the iPay e-commerce payment gateway Planet Payment bought in 2008 (CardLine, 4/22/08) also boosted revenue, the company says.
