The National Bank of Bahrain has signed a smart card-processing deal with Sinnad Co., a processor and payment-services firm also based in Bahrain. The bank, which issues Visa- and MasterCard-branded credit cards, signed the deal as part of its effort to issue chip cards that support the global EMV antifraud application. In a press release, the bank says Bahrain's central bank has encouraged financial institutions to issue EMV cards to reduce fraud. The bank said it would begin issuing the cards "shortly" but offered no specific timetable.
