NCR Releases New Tablet-Based Payment Device

NCR has launched a new tablet-based point-of-sale device aimed at minimizing security risks for the merchants that use it.

The new device, NCR Silver Register, runs the NCR Silver system through the cloud and excludes third-party applications to boost security and employee productivity, the Duluth, Ga.-based company said in a July 20 news release.

The device is built on a closed Android platform and was designed to be ready to use out of the box. The device can also sync with some Apple devices via the cloud to accept mobile transactions.

Merchants can choose to add hardware such as a customer display, cash drawer, wireless printer and scanner. The tablet comes with its own stand.

"NCR Silver Register is designed to help small businesses and franchises to easily focus on what's important – delivering a higher level of customer service and modernizing their stores," said Chris Poelma, president and general manager of NCR Small Business, in the news release. "The bundled solution is affordable and scalable, yet helps business owners power their businesses without the typical implementation challenges associated with many enterprise-level technology solutions."
