Latino Literacy Now has launched an affinity credit card to raise funds for Hispanic literacy projects. Each time a new cardholder activates a Latino Literacy Now Platinum Visa card, the Latino Book & Family Festivals will receive $50. The cards will generate additional income for the non-profit organization with each purchase. The festivals, which occur on weekends throughout the year in Hispanic neighborhoods around the United States, include readings, performances and other activities to promote literacy, education and culture. Actor Edward James Olmos (star of Battlestar Galactica and Stand and Deliver), co-produces the festivals. CardParnter Inc., a unit of United Kingdom-based Serverside Group Ltd., manages the cards, which UMB Financial Corp. issues. The cards offer introductory interest rates of 0% for six months, followed by an 11.5% annual percentage rate for purchases thereafter.
