New Zealand Bank Tests Mobile Contactless Payments

New Zealand based-bank ASB has concluded a three-month, in-house test of a mobile contactless-payment scheme designed for low-value purchases, a bank spokesperson tells CardLine Global. About 100 bank employees downloaded "wallet" applications onto their mobile phones, which could be used to make payments at cafes equipped with contactless readers. New Zealand-based mobile-payments firm M-Com installed the readers. The bank has yet to decide when to launch a mobile-payment service for customers. One factor that could delay a launch is a lack of contactless readers, the spokesperson says.
