NFC Forum To Unveil Symbol For Contactless Downloads

IMGCAP(1)]

The NFC Forum, a United States-based trade group that promotes Near Field Communication technology, plans to introduce a "stylized N symbol" next month designed to "enable consumers to easily identify embedded NFC tags," the group says in a statement. The introduction is scheduled to take place on 2 June during a Webcast. NFC tags embedded in posters, street signs and other places would enable consumers with NFC phones to dowload information via short-range radio waves. NFC has seen dozens of tests around the world but no large-scale rollouts, due in large part to a lack of phones and strong business plans among the various companies and groups involved in the contactless technology. The Forum says it plans to discuss details of the symbol's rollout plan during the Webcast.
