Nigerian technology company Interswitch Monday announced the country's banks have issued 6 million of its Verve chip-and-PIN cards the past three months. In 2005, the Central Bank of Nigeria ordered the country's banks to upgrade 26 million magnetic stripe cards to the more-secure chip-and-PIN type by the end of the second quarter of 2009. Interswitch attributed its numbers to the timing of the central bank's directive and card users' security concerns.
