‘Nowait’ Adds Payments to Restaurant Management Service

Nowait is adding payments to an app that manages customer wait lists at restaurants that don’t take reservations.

The four-year old Pittsburgh-based company is testing the new feature at 20 restaurants in the Pittsburgh area, with plans to roll it out nationally shortly.

Consumers who have downloaded Nowait’s app can link a credit or debit card to their profile. Users may opt to receive their check within the app and pay at the table, streamlining the checkout process at the meal’s conclusion.

Nowait’s app is an alternative to the manual buzzers restaurants give customers at peak hours. The app notifies customers with texts when their table is available. Nowait says the app helps restaurants manage traffic flow and reduces parties’ wait times by providing advance notice of their arrival.

About 4,000 restaurants nationwide use the app, including Chili’s and Buffalo Wild Wings. About 25 million consumers use Nowait’s app each month.
