South Korean ATM manufacturer Eltna Corp.'s purchase of Tranax Technologies Inc. indicates the off-premise ATM market is healthy and competitive, say executives of two companies that compete with Tranax. Eltna, the original-equipment manufacturer for Tranax, yesterday purchased Tranax for an undisclosed price (CardLine, 9/8). "The purchase of Tranax is further evidence of a healthy amount of competition in the off-premise ATM market, which will ensure better products and pricing for customers," Carlos Siewczynski, vice president of the North American retail self-service division at Nautilus Hyosung America Inc., tells CardLine sister publication ATM&Debit News. James Phillips, director of North American sales at Triton Systems of Delaware Inc., holds a similar view. "Anything that increases competition and ensures prices remain competitive will be good for ATM distributors, merchants and the consumer," Phillips says.
