Providers and vendors of mobile funds-transfer services will collect more than $5 billion in fees by 2013, according to a report from United Kingdom-based Juniper Research Ltd. Juniper expects "a significant opportunity for the providers of mobile money-transfer services as the market takes off," the report says. Report author Howard Wilcox writes users are receptive to new mobile funds-transfer services in trials both in developing and developed countries. "For many people it has been costly and difficult for them to transfer money via existing services even to friends and family," Wilcox writes. "Using mobile phones solves the problem." Juniper predicts annual global transaction value from mobile funds transfers will grow more than 10 times greater between 2009 and 2013. It expects the top three regions (Western Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and the Far East and China) to represent more than 60% of the global mobile funds-transfer gross transaction value by 2013, the report says.
